About Ledgerline

A small, independent journal about keeping a household ledger by hand, written by people who actually keep one.

What this journal is

Ledgerline started as a shared notebook between a few households comparing how they kept track of money on paper — what columns they used, how they closed the month, what they wrote in the margins. It became a small public journal because the comparing turned out to be useful on its own. It is not a financial advice service, and it does not evaluate anyone's personal finances. It is a record of method: how a paper ledger is kept, and what tends to make one easy to trust a year later.

Who writes it

Ledgerline is edited by a small, informal group rather than a single author. Entries are written and checked by whoever on the team last closed the relevant month in their own ledger, which is part of why the voice can shift slightly from post to post.

Desk 1

R. Combs

Keeps the Tuesday ledger for a four-person household and writes most of the Method column. Prefers a plain two-column page over anything printed with pre-set categories.

Desk 2

M. Okafor

Handles the Case Notes and Family pieces, drawing on a ledger shared with a partner since 2022. Keeps a separate page of margin notes as a running index.

Desk 3

T. Vranas

Proofs every totals line before a post goes up and maintains the Glossary. Keeps the oldest running ledger on the team, started in 2019.
